About Eric Tunis

Eric has had a distinguished career for almost 40 years as a trial and appellate attorney in criminal, civil, and regulatory matters.

Eric began his legal career as a litigation associate at Lowenstein Sandler LLP, and subsequently as a law clerk to the Honorable Herbert J. Stern, a United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

Following his clerkship Eric served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey for nine years, rising to the role of Deputy Chief of the Fraud and Public Protection Division. As a federal prosecutor, Eric litigated a number of high-profile cases, including the prosecution and conviction of the Mayor of Jersey City for bank fraud and tax evasion, and conducted and supervised dozens of other white collar grand jury investigations that resulted in guilty pleas.

Eric’s career as a private practitioner has been equally notable. For over twenty-five years, he has vigorously and successfully defended numerous individual and corporate clients at trial and on appeal who have been charged with federal and state crimes. He has also represented many targets and subjects of federal and state grand jury investigations involving a broad range of allegations including public corruption, bank, securities, insurance, and tax fraud, commercial bribery, money laundering, embezzlement, drug trafficking, and sexual assault.

Eric has also established a significant complex commercial and regulatory practice primarily related to matters in which fraud claims have been asserted in civil litigation or are the subject of official investigations. His clients in such matters have included publicly traded and privately owned corporations, financial institutions, and their directors, officers, attorneys, and accountants.

Eric’s areas of expertise also include employment and estate litigation, and he has served as a court-appointed receiver in several matters commenced by federal regulatory agencies.

Eric received a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law (Newark) in 1981 and served as a staff editor on the Rutgers Law Review. He graduated in 1977 from the State University of New York in Binghamton with a B.A. in mathematics.
